BRUSSELS SPROUTS are one of my favourite vegetables, but sadly, not everyone adores them. But what is there not to love about brussels sprouts? These mini cabbages have a naughty nutty flavour. And they smell so good when cooked! I helped myself with a piece or two while taking photos. By the time I was done shooting, the plate was almost empty!

I ADMIT, I am addicted. It started not long ago when I stumbled upon that book. My initial reaction was a combination of awe and disbelief. I’ve never seen anything like it. It was dark, moody and dirty. I gazed at page after page of tantalizing photos. I drool. Oh no, I was hooked…
SAUSAGE ROLLS, an all-time Kiwi favourite. They serve it in the office on occasions where snacks* are provided. [*They call it morning tea or afternoon tea.] Never had one. Because the sausage rolls they serve are either beef or pork. I don’t eat meat from four-legged animals.
BAKING is a tricky business. I have so much respect for people who bake. But I stay away from baking for many reasons. One is because it’s too fussy. It’s like a science. You mix, add or substract too much or too little then the balance of nature is disrupted. Two is because of the amount of sugar and fats in the ingredients. I rather not know what’s in my dessert and just enjoy it. Another reason is I’m not sweet-toothed. I don’t crave sweets but there were rare occasions when I would miss something someone baked and I just had to have it again.
This is a quick post with a quick dish and one of my all-time favorites on my Flickr food set. I took the photo above back in December 2009. It was an aha! moment for me. I realized how good natural light can make food look so sexy! Since then I’ve been chasing the light when photographing food.
I have planned this meal for days. I picked up something in the supermarket that I never knew existed. Brandy butter! What was that? I read the label: sugar, butter (35%), brandy (11%). Alright, I love alcohol in my food so I grabbed a bottle and went home blissfully. For those who didn’t know (maybe just me) – it is sweet! And the strong taste of brandy gives it a kick.
